6 Questions with Leah Thiessen

6 questions, a tiny interview with artists, makers and creative folks.
If I had to choose one word to describe Leah it would be "Grounded". Now, when other people bestow that word on you it can feel a little lofty, a little pressurised, as if every step you take is carefully considered or that you're unflappable or worst of all, that you have it "all together". But Leah does have a calm surety in her presence and that grounded feeling makes itself known in her artwork also.
Her relationship and sensitivity to the land that surrounds her is evident in each mark. Mangroves and soil and the native bush push and pull on the plane and her process is bared and exposed and celebrated, each move a love song to place.
It's always a joy to spend time with Leah, her real-ness and down to earth nature, is a true reflection of her life, loves and deep relationship to nature. She is currently represented by Flinders Lane Gallery in Melbourne and Lethbridge Gallery in Brisbane.
